corner guard update (97+ body style)

so i decided to do what Jes did with his corner guards.. but since i have the newer body style XJ i couldnt do a light housing with a 90 degree bend... it had to have the body style's curve in the lights housing thing.... so i went and got some steel.... and heres what ive done so far.... oh ya.. its a PITA hasta

I've been waiting for further pics on this. How's it going? How did you get the steel formed? Perhaps if a shop did it, I can get them to repeat a set for me. Jeff

i did the bends on the last day of my welding class... it was a total of (i believe) 5 bends using a brake to get the curve of the 97 style taillights....
a shop can do it for you no prob... the bend that goes along the body of the XJ legnthwise on mine got fuked up and i took it back to the guy who bent em originally and told him to fix it... so ya..... its all complicated.... we have to cut off the tail light section.... bend it flat.... then bend it back to the correct shape and place.... weld it back up... yada yada yada...
i believe it is 12 gauge mabye 10... if Jes's set is 12... then mine is 10... hehe all i know is mine are just a tit bit thicker... as far as progress... ive welded up a brace at the top.. ground it flush... drilled some holes and then later realized the ammount of stress that the entire thing will be under and drilled some more holes to distribute the stress a lil bit better... so ya

as far as how they look.... the only thing thats different is the brace at the top....
