4.0 engine chain

so whats the verdict, is the stock 4.0 a non-interference engine? i keep hearing most likely, but i want a definite answer...

Dunno, but the chain doesn't go bad like a belt; therefore, it doesn't really matter much. The chains are fine for well over 200K miles.
 
The 4.0, like most older designed engines, is NOT an "interference fit" between the valves and pistons.

As far as the chain jumping, breaking, whatever, it's almost UNHEARD OF. The timing chain in a 4.0 can usually still be serviceable at 200K miles.

Unless you KNOW that there a problem with the chain, don't bother going in there to replace it on "general princples", as one might do on many OHC engines.
