Have an 88mj just got through building and testing a little this weekend. It runs great when it's cold and needs more fuel, but as it warms up it begins to run like its loading up a bit. I can mat it and clear it right up and it runs great under hard throttle, but cruising around just barely on the throttle and it misses and sounds(and smells) like its starting to load up. I can gun it and it clears right out, it's like whatever tells the computer the motor is warm and its time to lean it out, isn't working. I've checked the map sensor vaccum line and fooled with the timing some, even tried disconnecting the o2 sensor as well as a new one.All with no luck, it's also will occasionally backfire when coming up to a stop. Now, this motor doesn't have all the stock items that came on it, a lot of the vaccum lines and egr crap has been weeded out. the few vaccum lines have been plugged at their source, best I could tell most went to emission realted stuff, none of wich would seem to contribute to this problem, but who knows. Any help would be appreciated ,I'm taking her to the woods next weekend(if this prob. is worked out of course).

It sounds like your engine runs slightly lean during warm up and once it's reached operating temp., it's running very rich under light load and slightly rich/stoich under heavy load.
I don't think the injectors are the problem but it'll be good to know what size injectors you have anyway. They should be Ford 24lb'ers.
It's more likely that one or more of your sensors isn't working properly or you have a vacuum leak somewhere. My money's on the latter so check all the vacuum lines and reinstall any that are missing. Check the vacuum in the intake manifold at idle with a gauge.

I'm running mustang 24lb. injectors. My biggest problem is I've been working on this truck from ground up for the last 6 months and coming down the home stretch I'm getting burnt out. Around 1 a.m. as I was in bed milling the problem over ,I remembered I had the distributor just a little loose to fine to while I was driving. It ran well so I thought nothing of it, apperantly it moved the more I drove it. I hoped out of bed and went down to my shop and remedied the problem about 2 a.m.Just got to get the ARB pump wired and I'm done...thank god.

Set the idle at about 900 RPM with the set screw in the back of the t-body (rocker cover side) that will lean it out somewhat.
