how do i remove my roof-rack to put on my surco?

What year XJ? They're probably all similar. Mine has a bunch of Torx screws holding the rack down.

Or maybe you can drive to a short parking garage and try to limbo it through the max clearance bar. :)

thanx , the side rails need to stay but the sliding gimmick and cross rails need to go . its 2000.

you should have 2 caps on each rail. One forward, and one back. Remove one from each side and have someone on the other side of the vehicle press the button that is a part of the slider bar and just move them back ( or forward ) and out...
