Does anyone have any of the Cherokee advertising literature from 1984 or 1985? I'd like to get the advertised horsepower and torque ratings (including RPMs) for the 2.5L 4-cylinder engine in those years. (1986 won't do -- that was the first year for the TBI version).

Also, does anyone have similar info, plus any other data, for the original Renault diesel used in the early XJs?

TIA

First off, Eagle, I have the Jeep complete line 1985 Canadian brochure, so anything you want with towing data, dimensions and capacities in centemeters, litres, or any of that let me know. Also in that brochure is the choice of engines for the XJ including the 2.5, the 2.8, and the 2.1 turbo diesel. Unfortunately it isn't as detailed as you ask in your thread, regardless, if it is beneficial, I have a color copier and fax at the house if you want hard copies.

For your answers, All I can tell you that the 2.5 (150 CID) had a 9.2:1 compression ratio and a 1 bbl carb, the 2.8 has a 8.5:1 (173 CID) compression ratio and a 2 bbl carb, and the 2.1 diesel (126 CID) has a 21.5:1 compression ratio.

I have pretty much every other spec and dimention that you might want from the dealer brochures. I also have a 1985 FSM in the garage. I will consult it and see if I can do you better.

I guess I didn't do much better.

All I could get from the FSM and the owners manual was that the 2.5 L had a taxable horsepower of 24.04 bhp.

I hope that makes sense to you, 'cause it doesn't to me!

hey eagle....

recently an 1985 XJ went through my hands on its way to the scrap yard...

while digging through it i found a couple different brochures for the 1985 Cherokee and wagoneer models, along with all the original paperwork from the original bill of sale, plus the original window sticker and the 1985 owners manual....

there was nothing in the brochures that i saw to indicate the hp numbers...

is this worth anything to you or anyone else?

mac 'all is in relatively decent condition' gyvr
