Question about heads

My '95 XJ has started developing problems and i'm fairly sure they are localised to the head, though i'm not sure which which cylinder it is. What i'm wondering is can I go out to a junk yard and find any post '91 head and throw it on without any other problems coming up. I was going to just get a rebuild kit, but I'd like to save my money and get my block bored and stroked so I can get more power out of it. Thanks for any info you have.

if you are going to get a used one out of a junkyard, they should be able to cross reference it. just ask for a lower mileage one

You want a 91-95 head. AKA the 7120 head. The 96-01s have smaller valves. AKA the 0630 head.
