Whenever I set out to drive my Cherokee in the morning, the Speedo
and Tach needles will occasionally simultaneously drop dead and flicker.
The other guages on the cluster are OK.
After 3-5 miles, everything becomes A-OK once the car warms up (engine-wise, and/or from being more exposed to the heat of the day).
I'm thinking that there must be a "marginal" electrical contact, somewhere,
that is made better by heat expansion.
I've taken out the cluster and cleaned all the screw terminals on the printed
ribbon circuit, and cleaned the cable connector - but that didn't do anything.
Is there another cable connector somewhere along the harness that I should
also be looking for?
Failing everything else, I'm thinking of swabbing a thin smear of dielectric
grease along the pins of the cable connector on the back of the instrument
cluster. Anybody got any thoughts on this?
Thanks y'all.
