Bolting hitches from a Grand to an XJ?

Anyone know if a 94 Grand Cherokee's hitch will bolt up to an 87 XJ's frame? Just a thought b/c my wifes Grand has a tow package and there is no need for it while my XJ needs a rear tow point. I could wait till she is asleep and transfer it over

I just checked my '96 ZJ vs my '85 XJ and it seems that from left to right and from front to back, all the bolt holes line up.

Here is the problem. The XJ hitch has the bolts on the outside of the hitch while the ZJ hitch has them on the inside.

I don't think that it will work even though the bolts all seem to line up, because of the tailpipe placement, UNLESS you took the tailpipe off the XJ and rerouted it.

I have been wrong before, but I'm not sure I am on this one.
