starter question

My starter is going bad on my 2000 XJ, on hot days, when i turn the car off, it has trouble restarting. Usually i have to pop the hood, and let it cool then it starts fine. From a cold start it starts fine as well. I purchased a 98 XJ starter, I am assuming this will work fine on my 2000 XJ. L6 4.0. am i correct?

4 CYL YES. 6 CYL Probably not. Interchange looks to be up to 1998, and after 1998.

If there is a difference it will just be the solenoid connector (earlier used a nut for the connection and later have a plug but I think the plug part can be unbolted)
