How thick is the stock gas tank skid?

My stock skid appears to be made of 1/8" wall (what is that, 11 gauge?).

It's not 1/8. I just had one repaired where a rock had punched thru a rusted area. We used 16-gauge steel for the patch and it seems to match the original thickness exactly.

The later tank skids are pretty beefy, nothing like the earlier Eagle mentions. Figure they were thinking had better give the plastic tanks more protection.

The one on my '87 MJ is 1/8" steel. I could jack against it if I wanted. It was pretty beefy. But the tank was taller than most tanks so it hung a little lower. The same vehicle had an approach skip that was quite impressive. It had the Comachee trim package.

Okay, just took a measurement this morning and indeed, it is 1/8". I pulled it off of a '95 Sport model if that helps anyone.

Okay, I just went out and miked a new one in the garage (old style). The end plates with the mounting flanges are indeed 1/8" (0.125). The actual skid pan, though, is thinner -- it mikes at 0.090. Don't know what gauge that translates to, but it ain't 1/8".

I found a metal thickness chart on the Internet -- 0.090 is between 14 gauge and 12 gauge, but that's for bare metal. Allowing for paint thickness, I'd say the actual skid pan is 14 gauge metal, the end plates and mounting flanges 1/8"
