so im aout to put in 4.56's and carriers i bought but the front one is welded i noticed, the gearing in the carrier, does this mean it is a locking differential and will it affet street driving? i think i know the answer since xjs are real wheel drive but thought i would double check before i dive in, also will this make it wheel better when i put it into 4wd?
thanks

If the front carrier is welded, its not a "locking" differential at all, it is perminantly locked, and will nearly be impossible to drive on the street.:farmer:

Welded front would be crazy on the street. (without a disco axle or lockout hubs)

It would wheel better maybe in mud pits. Anywhere else it would be a handful.

<edit> I'd find another diff case <edit>

It will make it wheel better in 4WD ... in a straight line. It'll also make it virtually impossible to turn. I hope you didn't pay a lot.
