I have never owned a CB and am asking for any advice anyone might have.

Cobra and Uniden make some good stuff.

Cobra makes a small unit where all the controls are on the mike, and you hide the 'box' under a seat.

I'll bet she is even eaiser to look at muddy, but unfortunately you would have to share to pass inspections at some of events.

Catherine Bell.. you're making my mouth water!

Here's the CB you need.. Small, compact, 40-channel.. You can pick it up for around $50.00 at any truck stop.

Hi,

but don't forget this stuff:
antenna (most important for a good receiving and transmiting)

Also you have to adjust the antenna with a SWR meter. This is important as if the antenna is not adjusted correctly you may damage the CB. Also you can improve the receiving/transmitting quality and strength if the antenna is adjusted.
The position where you mount the antenna can also improve this. Best position is the middle of the roof and no other antenna on the roof which could disturb.

greetings from Austria

Thaanks for all the input. I have had the Cobra DX 19 III recomended by other Jeepers as well. Looks like it might be a good fit in a Jeep. If I get an antenna and mount it in the middle of the roof, is bigger necessarially better. I think trees would like to eat antenni mounted on a rooftop. I had been looking at the 4' Firestik and was thinking of mounting it to the liftgate so it would be above the roof line but not interfere with opening and closing.

I have the Cobra 19 and a 3' K-40 (which I tuned). Check out the folder labeled:

Custom CB Overhead Console (http://community.webshots.com/album/127844238CClcCZ)

here:

That's my overhead install and the antenna mount - I have had zero problems with either in over 4 months of use in this configuration. Make sure to have any antenna cables soldered when getting the ends put on - it will make a difference in the life of the set-up.
