Wheel Flares on '91XJ

What's involved removing the stock wheel flares on a '91XJ?

Some body shop guy said: in addition to the fasteners, there's two-sided tape that holds them tight against the body. I don't see anything in the FSM about any tape. BS or not?

Also... if there's no tape do these come off fairly easy... I would like to remove the flares to get them repainted.

Thanks

To remove the flare, unbolt the bolts from behind the lip. There isn't any tape, just his try to get some money from you. I will tell you this. The bolts will break. So get a hardware kit from the dealer or try rigidsteel.com for the hardware. Also on the topic of paint you must put a flex agent in the paint before they are painted. When I painted my jeep that is what we did to keep the paint from cracking if the flare flexes. Just some advice.

Ya this guy is trying to rip you a new one.

It takes 20 minutes to take all the flares off, but there is quite a few bolts.

On my 88, I think 3 or 4 bolts survived the process.... :/
