Which Long Arm Kit?

Looking to do a long-arm upgrade, but am stuck as to which kit to get. Seriously looking at either the Clayton or Rusty's kit. I have heard many pros about the Clayton kit, but I like the bolt-on design of the Rusty's. Anyone have any experience with the Rusty's kit? Opinions on either kits? TIA.

i've had claytons for about 9 months now. its been great. i only have 5" of lift, rides very nice.

im no expert, but i would not trust anything that welded to a pressed uni body frame. i would rather bolt threw it than trust a weld on pressed metal.

whaddya mean by "pressed" metal???

you can weld on anything.

formed, stamped, brake, hydroformed, whatever.....

pre fabrication doesn't make welding to it any less possible

i just mean if you fab your own kit or buy one i would get one that bolts on rathere than welds. ive seen the unibody come apart pretty easy with steering boxes, and i would want a few bolts in anything i was putting on a uniframe. just my 2 cents though.

Clayton's cross member welds to the thickest part of the unibody frame rail. IMHO I would feel far more secure with a good, continuous weld bead holding that sucker on there than with just a couple of bolts through it, that probably go into oversized holes and are going to wobble around until they tear something loose.

How the heck do you think they make unibodies -- or aircraft, or submarines? They sure don't bolt them together.

I would recomend Clayton's kit after installing one on a ZJ. Very Beefy although it could have done without all the Hammerite he sprayed all the Johnny Joints and arms.
You may also want to consider Rubicon Express's Extreme Duty Long Arm kit that is suppose to be out in a few months.

i am...... i run clayton's kit and love it. clayton beats the absolute living hell out of his ZJ and his kit takes it no sweat.

ive got the claytons kit...it is so nice. havent really "beatn" it, but i did have a guy at the allignment shop accedentially lift the drivers side of the jeep supporting it in the middle of the arm. dont ask me how :( , but there was only minor paint scratches.

i do plan on welding some 3/16 plate to the outer part of the frame where the crossmember welds on to give some additional tortional rigidity in that area. this will also serve as a place to use some real bolts for attaching my rocker guards.

i cant wait to get home for the summer and have actual tools!

JNJ, I'll tell you what, it sure would have been easy to weld my set-up on, but I was thinking of it in terms of a "kit"......had some ideas, but I'm much better now.......

They just did a really nice custom long arm on a customers and if I do one, I'll have them do it. Of the kits, I'm a 'Clayton'.......




(what the hell is wrong with short arms anyway?--I don't need a limiting strap, either)
