question about external trans filters/temps

I was wanting to get a temp guage in my trans lines. I was either gonna buy the one autometer makes that just puts the sender in the line, or get a permacool one I found that is a filter mount that has a place for a temp guage.
Does anybody have the permacool style and know if any sender will work in it or does it have to be one with a small bulb that they sell special?

I would like to have the guage since I am thinking of completely bypassing the in radiator cooler.

Searched and didn't find any definate info.

I like that autometer one... looks like a clean setup.

well, I guess my first experiment is gonna be a 1/2 NPT T and a couple 1/2" to 3/8" hose barb fittings. Will see if the guage sender will work in that without bottoming out in the T first.

$8 with a couple of hose clamps.

I added a cooler, an external filter and an autometer guage, the guage sender fits in the housing for the filter, - I have it set up on the return line, it does give me a way to see how the temps are going back into the tranny, the external filter is great, and the yearly cleanout of the internal filter shows it to be like new, the external filter catches all the junk that would have ended up in there, I change it fairly frequently. I am planning on adding another sender and a switch so I can see the temp difference between the hot side of the tranny oil lines and the "cold" (relatively speaking) side - more for curiosity's sake at this point, but the coolr/filter/temp guage is a handy mod.
