steering prob.

ok my '88, 4.0 stock is acting funny. Front end is new (except Ball joints) it steers great to the left wheel comes all the way back, and nice resistence. But to the right it's sloopy, with weak resistance, and at a slight turn the wheel doesn't return.
I read a thread about a (proportion)valve in the pump but couldn't find the thread. Is this my prob. / any ideas on a fix? TIA
