50 bux??? WTF! It didn't even cost me that much to ship a 17 inch monitor. And that was WITH insurance. Something sounds fishy.

Package them up very nicely in some carboard and duct tape. Take them down to your local FedEx and ship them FedEx ground.

It wont cost you anywhere near $50. When I shipped a winch to SeanR, across the country from me, it was only $53.

FedEx all the way.

It all has to do with a shape of a package.... if you go above certain dimensions the price skyrockets :D Try to pack them in as cubical package as possible.

Doesn't work for companies that need pickup and door-to-door delivery, but you might look into Greyhound parcel shipping. You take it to the bus station, they ship it with the hold baggage in their regular busses, and the recipient collects it from the Greyhound station in his town.

Cheap.

Nope but ya have to get the parcel at the bus station, so YMMV.

I've gone Greyhound, have you?

Cheap. You might even look into Amtrak. Get them on train #5 out of Chicago to Salt Lake City. Ship them to me (seriously) and I can pick them up when I go to work and I'll see to it that John gets them.

If you can pack them in a box that is as skinny as possilbe you should be able to get it in the standard UPS class (not oversize).

I thought it was a thing of the past... something that the old folks only talked about and maybe ocassionaly you'd see in an older movie :D
