tow hook reinforcement?

I just got some free tow hooks and brackets. I'm reinforcing the front panel/bumper mounts Like Rigidco with some 1/8" plate that a friend is bending for me. Is there anything else that I can do to help keep them square? I was thinking a piece of 1/4" stock to run between the mounting points of the hooks. Good idea? Bad idea? help
