It has been discussed here a couple of times but I have never seen a 'I changed my rear bench to buckets and here are the pics' posting...ever...

People have talked about it, but I don't think many (if any) have done it. When I put my racing bucket in the back it wouldn't fit without raising my cage up about 3". The way that the back floorpan is formed makes it quite difficult to have legroom and headroom and still be able to mount the seats semi easily. I suppose you could do some reworking of the floor and get them to fit.

Ashman did it... but he's topless.

We have done it before. Its ok if you dont like to see out of the rear window, especially if you have a tire swing. If you thought the rear bench was bad, the only people that can fit in the buckets are children and short people. Of course we changed back to the bench. Just ask yourself who actually sits back there?
I am doing this right now, but it is only to fit kids back there, not adults. I am also adding the unique twist of making it a six seater. I just installed an internal cage. Next step is to tie in the D and B pillar mounts with seat mounts, along with stud braces (perhaps tied into the OEM seat belt mounts).
So how does this stuff fit? I am using preteen (ages 5-12) size buckets for the second row, and toddler sized seats for the back row, custom made by PRP Seats. It all fits very nicely and with plenty of room, and does not affect visibility out the rear at all as the seats simply sit behind the front seats. All of the seating positions will be using five point harnesses, and both harnesses and seats will bolt directly into the cage. This allows me to avoid tall seat mount brackets, and the second and third rows will be no taller than the front seats.
The downfall will be when the youngest kids don't fit in toddler seats, and I have to try to get a second set of preteen seats in the cargo area, but I'll worry about that then. If you are talking about buckets for kids to replace the bench, then by all means it is easily done, and you will free up a lot of interior space, including enough room to store a 35x12.5 spare in the cargo area.
I really don't think you'll get adult sized seats in there, because the bench was narrow and buckets are not. Leg room would be a real problem (like it isn't already), and you can't just slide them back because the floorpan rises up to the cargo area.
I'll post pics when it is done, but I doubt it will be completed before a month or so.
