General question: are pressure release radiator caps (the ones with the red release lever) more prone to failure than normal radiator caps?

I never had very good luck with the ones with a button, but the ones with a toggle lever seemed to last all right.

I used to replace the OEM types with the stant lever types. Then one day I realized I was only doing this because the cooling system had problems and the lever allowed me to open the cap sooner to add more coolant. Now instead of adding more coolant to fix a leak or overheating issue I instead fix the problem.
I also replace the cap usually yearly, sometimes every other year, depends on if I remember to pick one up when I do my annual cooling systems maintenance of new coolant and tstat...
