Build-up questions

I am starting to build an 89xj for 95% trail use. I am keeping it road legal to get it to and from the trail. I have some lift questions. I want to lift it around 5", will I need upper and lower control arms? If I only do lower, will the flex be greatly limited?

Flex won't be limited with stock uppers but you may run into front driveshaft vibe issues. Thus you will want adjustable uppers at 5"s of lift so you can dial in your pinnion angle.
