front will not engage

i have a big problem. my front hubs will not engage when i put it in 4wd. the light is iluminated and you can feel the power lag from the transfer case, but the wheels do not engage....how do i fix this so i can go back out on the trails again

What year? That's an issue to know whether you have a vacuum disconnect in your front axle or not. If you do, check vacuum lines to it first. If vacuum seems to be in order, you might have to take the disconnect motor off and check for a broken fork.

its an 89. i cant figure where the vacume starts........the vacume on the axle seems kinda loose. but where does the line start.

sure enough it was the shift forks
