has anyone stuck in something else to replace to D30. And if so what, and how well did it work?

You might poke around as there have been threads about putting anything from a d44 to d60. It all depends on how much $ you wanna spend and how much fabrication you want to do.

There're almost as many threads about D30 swaps as there are D30s. Kejtar gets a ditto from me.
i think the way he put it ..."stuck in" actually means the question, is there a drop-in replacement anyone knows of, off another vehicle that will bolt in without having to fab up new brackets?...bolt in
during searches i haven't found any...has anyone else?

The D44 out of a Rubicon is a bolt-in replacement:
Advantages: Bigger ring/pinion gear & carrier. Lower gear ratios available. Gets rid of vacuum axle disconnect system. 30 spline (vs 27) inner axles
Disadvantages: Loss of ground clearance. Low pinion housing. A bit heavier. $$$?
About the same: High pinion (reverse rotation) D30 approx = Low pinion (standard rotation) 44 in gear strength, Same (smallish) ball joints, steering knuckles, unit bearing hubs & stub axles as the D30.
The TJ Rubi D44 and the TJ D30 are the only axles that will bolt right in place of a XJ D30. I don't see the TJ-LP44 having any major advantages over the XJ30, that couldn't be addressed on the XJ-HP30 for similar $$$ & time/labor.
The TJ30 (or it's twin, the late-model XJ LPD30) is unattractive to me, soley by being a LP design. It has NO advantages...unless you had one sitting there, in the ratio you need, and it was free.

A custom built Ford 9", D44, or D60 will bolt right in........if you have the $$ to buy one. :)
Save the coin, go for the super 30 kit from Superior and ARB.
