I had a blast in Moab. Thanks everyone for making it such a great time. I can hardly wait to get back, but prolly won't happen until October. Anyway, when are we going out next? I was hoping AF canyon would start thawing out soon (until this weeks' comeback snow event)! I am available pretty much every weekend now up through Memorial weekend and would like to plan something local, any suggestions? Rattlesnake?

We have two shop days scheduled, 8th and 22nd as well as a U4WDA spring run in delta on the 8th. There is a mountain bike race on the 1st at 5 mile pass, might want to avoid that area this weekend, so the 15th and 29th sound like the best dates?

I'm gonna be buried with yardwork for the next month so I doubt I'll do anything in the dirt except dig until June..........go ahead and plan something, anyone been out to play at the Knolls lately?

:kissyou: Ahh, wheelers after my own heart! Any kind of day trip would be way cool :sunshine: Gotta keep up with domestic issues, but with some advanced notice I can usually get a hall pass for 1 day out of the weekend!
I woud love to hit some of the local trails, I know there are alot that I don't even know about, or know about & never been on. From Memorial on we spend alot of our time at the Gorge fishing & ATV'ing, so it will limit the # of weekends we're in town, but if I'm here I'd love to go!

BTW: If anyone is interested, there is a substantial network of ATV/mountainbike trails,(sorry, not much for Jeeps though :smsoap: Those Bastards! :explosion :scottm: We'll hafta discuss this at the secret meeting) with some great camping spots (USFS or primitive) in close prox to trails, streams, & wildlife 3.5 hr. from SLC or the big O :looney: we could even do a groupluvhugfamlycampkindathingy party1: Surprisingly this area gets very little traffic through the summer months xsep holliday weekends. Happy to share any info/experience that would help with anyone's plans

I have never done Rattlesnake Canyon. In fact I don't really know where it is. I think the location can be found on www.rockymountainextreme.com but I haven't searched for it very hard. Does anybody know the snow situation/location of this place? It's supposed to be a good trail. I seem to recall it being in the Spanish Fork area...

I'm also up for a Saturday Little Moab trip.

Rattlesnake is out at 5 mile pass. There's also another trail close by called Constrictor that's a blast to run.

15th AF canyon sounds good to me. Does anyone know if Farmington/Bountiful canyon is completly open or are parts of it still blocked off.

Just commuting past Bountiful last week, I saw quite a bit of snow on the road up there. Probably covers most/all of the main route thru near the top. My vote would be AF Canyon or Rattlesnake (same thing?) for the 15th - but my anniversary is the 18th and wifey and I may do a weekend dune trip on the ATV's for the 15-16th. No, you can't come with us!

The loop over Bountiful-Farmington doesn't usually open till at least June. There is one spot up there that the wind blows the snow over a peak and the road runs right under it. Its still prolly 20 feet deep there right now.

well the tow rig is gettin new exhaust today, so I should be ready by then! But I won't have the XJ registered by then. Can I still come? I plan on just registering it OHV only, but I'm really low on funds.

You fellas know it will be cold right? We went up there and camped last August up by Forest Lake and we froze :wave1:

I'd be up for the "secret meeting" to find more places to explore. I have my favorites but am always up for finding new ones. maybe at the next local run.

AF Canyon on the 15th sounds great. I'm not sure If I'll try to pull off a overnight trip this early in the year, but a day of wheeling sounds wonderful. Now the details: Personally I'm not too interested in Mineral Basin, but anything else up there sounds good. We've beaten Forest Lake to death, but it is a good trail. It is on the North facing slope so there may still be a lot of snow. ITZAK, what was the trail up there you told me about when we were in Moab? I know exactly where it starts and it is on the South facing slope (Less Snow), but I cannot think of the name of it and I have never been up there before. You mentioned something about abandoned mines? We may be limited in wherever we go depending on Snow fall. How about meeting at the Tibble Fork reservoir parking lot at 9:00 (or earlier, My son gets me up at 7:00!).

Dave,
It's called Mary Ellen Gulch. It's a pretty mellow trail just a two track that goes up to 10200 ft. It shows on the map they give you at the pay station. I can't go I have a new job and I will be working that day. Let me know how it goes .

1:00 works for me, I would like to try that trail ITZAK was telling us about or maybe even go to the top and overlook Midway and Heber and drop back down at the Crystal springs road. Did that last year and it is a great view. Forest lake is fun but we have done that one a few times, I wouldn't mind doing it again though.

I will be bringing another friend from work, for those of you on the bountiful run last year he is the black grand cherokee who had front driveline problems. He is sitting about 5 inches taller now and has 32s, I like to think we had a little something to do with that.

Don't have a clue where the parking lot is, or the reservoir either, for that matter, but if I can get the brake light working, I'll try and be there at 1 pm. on the 15th. Won't promise anything, but I'll give it a shot.

1:00 at Tibble Fork Reservoir. We can stick around until 1:30 or so to allow everyone to get up there, air down, etc. Head up American Fork Canyon (Highland/Alpine exit after passing the point of the mountain heading South on I-15, Turn left) and about 5 miles up the canyon you will see a sign on the right side of the road pointing to tibble Fork Res, take a left. The road will drive you right into the parking lot. Bring some cash. The fee is $3.00 per vehicle, I think! CB channel 26. Mary Ellen Gulch (as far as we can make it) and/or Forest Lake. See y'all up there.

Yup. Dunno what I'm doing, but I'll be there to do it. Don't even know if this is a trail, or a highway..but I'll be at the Tibble Fork res. parking lot, around 1 pm. Leaving here at 0900, so, that'll let me get 2 hours sleep. I have a seat open, if someone wants to ride along. You'll know if I fall asleep, I snore. Anyway, it's a white jeep, only purty thing about it, inside or out, are the tires.

Dunno..headed down there now, will have channel 26 on the CB, if I'm early, I'll be the sleepy pig in the jeep...if no one shows up, I'll scan in a bunch of pics from 4 wheeler and learn to use photo shop...yeah, that's ME on top of that rock, honest....okay..maybe not. Wow, all I could do is bounce around on some rocks, and here you guys are hiking/jeeping/canoeing, alllll in the same day! Though, hearing about her torn knee made MINE hurt again :P. We had fun. I liked the Rock Garden..then again, reminds me why I never wanted to go back to farming... But we got to see some pretty country, and other than 'eenie, meenie, miney, moe' doesn't work on choosing lines after all, I and the jeep did okay. Would be kinda nice to have 4 low, but then again, I don't have to think as much when I go over something, without that choice. When I get some time, I'll post the pics, including the most important one, of the lady ranger-person...if that's what they're spending my $3.00 fee on, its a wise investment.... Oh, and roads and um..trees and ah..stuff, yeah, that.
