I know this isn't up to par with some of hte other ones out there... but what do you think about this one: http://www.supermetals.biz/Dana30.htm for about $30 or so? Worth it? total waste of money? Good till the first hit?

I dunno, I like the structure of the tube style ones better. That flat plate looks like it'd just bend.

The ebay special, looks good for cheap protection. The only problem I can forsee, is maybe when you upgrade the steering links.

:) you caught me chuck LOL... well, I am thinking about short term solution.. I banged my front diff on more then one occassion due to not seeing that rock...... I'd love to get one of the really nice ones.. but the really nice ones... are way more :( so for about $30 to door..... does it sound reasonable?

Sounds like a pretty good deal for $30. But, I wouldn't go out testing it on purpose. :D

I was looking at the new Warn ones. Anyone have any experience or are those things brand new?

A piece of 1" x 1/4" strap shaped and welded to the front of the OEM diff cover is, by far, the best diff protection I have ever seen. Total cost: about $1.00.

P.S. Don't own a welder? Check out this deal:

This is what mine will look like if I ever finish it.
I like the full guards.

I'd pass on that one Kejtar, it'll bend on the first hard hit. This kind of stuff is simple to make and is why a welder will pay for itself very quickly. Even an inexpensive 110v gasless mig will do most of the projects that the beginning Jeeper will build. As you progress and have bigger projects and deeper pockets you can step up to a bigger welder and sell your old one (there's always a market for them). Come on, just do it!
JNJ, the second cover shows promise, run a weld along the strap and it will add a lot of strength to that cover.TC

4x4 doctor is what I had and I beat the heck out of it. The tubes offered more strength than flat strap. $64 well spent. My new 60 cover has 3/8"x3" strap welded on it over the ring gear

Cool... thanks guys... I'll have to probably fork out the $$ for the better one :)

I was thinking that a budget solution would be to grab a spare diff cover out of a junk yard. Replace the stock cover bolts with studs, double-nut the OEM cover to leave some space, then install the second cover and fill the space between with some of that expanding foam stuff they sell at Lowe's and Home Depot.

That would certinaly be "unique"
