leak in front diff after I put on diff skid plate

I just put on a skid plate on my front differential on my 90 xj

Now the differential seems to drip oil very slowly. What do I have to do to stop it.

If I need to put in a seal, how do I do it. How do I drain replace the differential oil. Where do I get the necessary seal.

Any hope I can avoid all this.

I used the old bolts, would getting larger bolts possibly help?

That sounds like a faulty skid plate. Definitely a manufactures recall, pull it off now before it causes Death wobble.

The diff bolts should be fine SAE thread, you can get a gasket at any parts store or just use RTV.

You don't need larger bolts. Where is it leaking from??? On the front of the diff cover, there is a square plug, that is your fill plug, is it leaking fron there??? If so, tighten it a little. To change diff oil, remove all the surrounding diff cover bolts, & carefully crack it open. clean well, & get some RTV & reseal. Then take out square plug & fill.

It all depends on the skid, if it has a thick, 3/8" ring, then that's 3/8 of an inch not being used to hold the diff cover on. Also the cover bolts are grade 5, make sure you don't overtorque them, If you get new bolts, make sure thaey are grade 8.
