full throttle bog at 4k rpm

I was wondering if it may be caused by the fuel filter I am going to change that today if not any ideas??
basically I was getting on the freeway and since i now have a tach I stayed in 3 and about 4k it sputtered and acted like it was out of fuel I am hoping it's not the computer or anything too expensive
