How good are those professional resume writers, good idea or waste of money ?? I've always been of the opinion that I know myself and capabilities better than some writer and can present myself and my skills better. None of the agencies have made negative comments, generally all positive when going over it. Has anybody ever used one ??

Yep. Waste of money. Truly, all they do, is have more confidence than the guy who's been turned down 200 times in his application as a brain surgeon..with no prior experience. Main thing is, know what type of job you are applying for, and focus your resume toward that job. For 350.00 or more, they put the thing on nice paper, you can do the same bloody thing.

Don't waste your money! I have read a ton of resumes and I always come back to the ones that are well written. That doesn't mean alot of fancy words and a cover page with a long intro...
name
address
phone
email
job objective (what you are looking for, should be no longer then 4 sentences.)
job history (most recent to last go back 5 yrs, too many jobs shows a job hopping pattern)
education (HS, college, trade school, etc)
special training/skills (any training. shows that you have the dedication to learn)
summary (why you are good for the job. no more then 4 sentences. words like teamwork, leader, self motivated look good but not too many... too many look like you paid to have your resume done)
In my opinion/experience a good one page resume is the best. GL

Yeah, don't waste your $$. I used to work in a quick print shop and would get a big laugh out of people who used those places to put their resumes together. They all looked and sounded the same. If you need some help, let me know and I can give you a hand. More than happy to help out a fellow NAXJA member!

do it yourself and let several pairs of eyes look at it. Good advice above. Keep in mind that blind resumes being sent is a low probability way to find a job. Get good at cold calling potential employers, get 10 minutes on the phone and tell them that you are emailing the resume right away, then call to follow up. If you do this, you will set yourself apart from 90% of the other applicants.
I am a pretty damn good interviewee and have been offered every job I have interviewed for. Unfortunately, I accepted a lot of those jobs ;)
