np242 help

Every time I shift in or out of 4x4 the shift linkage rod that runs from the tunnel to the press in fitting on the trans. comes out of the press in fitting. The rod isn't worn and it seats nicely. Any suggestions on how to fix it? I'd post a pic but---- you know.
By way of explanation, it's the one that the shift lever rod and the linkage to the xcase all attach to.

You will need to get a repair kit from Jeep. The plastic keeper can loose it strength or get damaged even though it feels fine. The repair isnt expensive.
