It's probably too early to worry about this but I ran Kane Creek last year at the Fall Fling and got a tick. I guess it was on one of the branches that whacked the side of the rig. I didn't think anything about it, but as it turns out I ended up with Lyme Disease. So make sure and check for ticks.
Personally, Kane Creek is one of my favorite trails. Only two interesting obstacles, but nothing you couldn't do with a stocker if you knew what your were doing.

It is treated with antibiotics. The problem is that it is frequently misdiagnosed, especially around here since it isn't too common. With me, the worst thing was that it caused my arthritus in my knees to go crazy. I almost had them operated on before I made them to the tests. My daughter is studying to be a vet and diagnosed me.

Yup a regime of Antibiotics. It's unfortunately common around here. Symptoms include rings around the bite (looks like a bulls eye), flu like symptoms for a day or so and sometimes the bite does not heal well.
Around here, the Deer Tick is the carrier. Too bad that it's the smallest species at 1/32- 1/16" for the nymph.
Still, all in all, your chances are fairly high in getting it if you scan yourself for ticks after a run as it generally takes 8-24hrs for ticks to sit down to a meal once they've found one.

I actually found mine that night, but still got Lyme. I guess I'm just jinxed on Moab. First time I put my XJ on its top due to a power steering failure. The second time I busted two axles within about 10 minutes of each other and ended up with Lyme disease. The wife is getting skitish about going.

Nastiest thing I've gotten at the Badlands are chiggers.
Felt stupid putting fingernail polish on my itches, but it fixed 'em good.
Back to the Tick thing... Dirty rotten blood sucking so and so's. I've pulled 9 off one dog and 3 off the other this last week. Lucky me, all NA dog ticks. Still, I hate 'em... Dip the dogs, throw the bedding (was old anyway), spray the carpet... Only good thing is tha Dogs think I am petting them more. Fact is though, I'm looking for more ticks ;-)

Does any one have any idea how deep the water will be in Kane creek this time of year. I get a little nervous around water since I already lost one XJ.

Yes, OFF (some prefer deep woods off) and deet, work on ticks, gnats, chiggers, black flies, fleas, skeeters, but not lawyers.
Best thing to do, is have me walk thru the area, first. I've been known to pick up every dang varmit while my cousins don't have a thing on 'em. Prolly cuz I'm so sweet, and um..stuff.

Looks like it works on ticks and vampires too........both being blood suckers......http://www.mercola.com/fcgi/pf/2000/aug/27/garlic_tick_repellent.htm here's more info on topical repellents http://pubs.cas.psu.edu/freepubs/pdfs/uo211.pdf
My friend who lives in Moab contracted Lyme Disease from a tick bite, they like to hide in the tamarisk trees that are found near the waters edge in the Moab area. An ounce of prevention..........sorry to hear about your misfortune Tom.
