For those of you with fabricating experience or who have made their own bumpers, I am wondering if mild steel will work for a bumper with an integrated front-reciever hitch.
Thanks, Matt

Mild steel is what most are using. Anything else is expensive and hard to come by. If you're incorporating a receiver hitch, you may want to use 1/4 inch. That is what most receiver hitches are made of (class III). With proper structure, 3/16 inch would probably work.

yes, absolutly.
"commercial quality" hot or cold-rolled
1008, 1011, 1018, 1050 etc, etc....all fine for what you are after....

i agree mild steel. 1/4". for welding on i like the cold rolled, but i like to tig and the cleaner suface is easier to weld on without grinding all day long...but thats just tig, and its not really economical to tig bumpers when a stick will work just fine (or mig or whatever turns you on). have fun!
