i need to know how to tell what year a trannie (aw4) by any tag etc or stamps on trannie

I dunno if you can get 'exact' build info on an AW4...
but one can generalize that (for 4WD trannys) the 89 and below have 21 spline outputs, changing to 23 spline from 90-91 & newer. I don't know if the electronics (connector plugs) changed in the newer OBDII models

there is a green tag on the case. it is on the passenger side near the neutral safety switch.
