Who all from Utah is going on the Rubicon this year??
I'm thinking about going and canceling my Montana Divide Ride '04 trip. Just curious if anyone else is considering it.

Well, I have my leave approved, so I CAN go. Depends on my rig, mostly and a couple of other issues. Was planning on doing Colorado and the 'Con, but, not sure about a couple things. Hows that for a definite maybe... I need to build confidence in the jeep and myself, mostly.

I really wanted to go but it's too close to my 10 year anniversary.......but we'll be in Telluride the week before some mild wheeling with killer scenery will still happen.

I'm jealous. :bawl: If my rig was equipped to do the Rubicon, I'd do it. Maybe someday. Anyone want to donate a front and rear locker so I can make it out? :looney:

Holy cow!! :worship: I've gotta see these pics too!!! How far did you get without winching? (if you say that you made it up the waterfall at the end without a hook, I'll slap you!)
Bigjoe, as much as I'd like to go run the Rubi, the dates usually coincide with a family vacation to Bear Lake.
Also, my (formerly top secret) 5 day ARB American Outback Safari plans fell through for June. It seems that ARB couldn't use my Jeep in their new catalog photo/video shoot because I don't have Old Man Emu shocks on it. They were going to give me a set but they currently don't make a shock in the required length for my lift height. After that they were just going to paint my shocks yellow and slap on some OME stickers (or photoshop the pics) and just go with that BUT after waiting to hear back for approval from HQ, they just decided to scratch the whole idea since it would have been product misrepresentation.
The good side to all of this is that it frees up my days off and I 'might' now be able to make it to Moab with everyone for the Intermountian NAXJA event. I've gotta get a rush going on my Jeep repairs though. I'm gonna put my Jeep in the shop shortly after the Mepco show and get some parts on order.

Hey Todd, Man you need to come to Moab. I really want to wheel with you. I really want to see if that white thing you drive actually ever does see dirt.

Hey, Joe, you're keeping pretty tight lipped now!
Don't make us do a locker install on the next shop day.

Sorry, I don't get on the Forums that often on my weekends.
Hey, if you've got a locker to donate, I am there! Don't they just require one locker for this Rubicon trip? Do they even let guys with D35's run with them? I'm already planning on doing the Rubicon next year sometime as I'm pretty sure the rig will be ready then.

They said my rig, with the one locker in the rear, 33's and 4 inch lift, would prolly do fine..of course, that was when it actually had an engine..see other thread.

I work with a guy who lived only a couple of miles from there and he used to run it in a stock nissan pick up.
Now, I'm not recommending that but, I am going with only one locker.
I'm trying to encourage someone to put up a locker (lock rite, detroit) or something so you won't have any more excuses.
Someone out there has a locker to donate to the ACE foundation......Right? :D

I'll just toss this in for fun - :dunce: the first & , sadly , only time I ran the Rubicon , we had in our group a YJ with 2.5" lift , open diffs & still on factory tires & a 78 1/2 ton short bed Chev with 4" & 32's. With the exception of The Little Sleuce (they took the bypass) we olny hooked the strap up 4 times from Wentworth Springs to Spider Lake & back by the same route. :greensmok I don't know how the rest of the trail is , but allways remember - With enough patience, percevierence, & determination, you can stuff a watermellon up a bobcat's ass  I say go - live the dream - wish I was there

ace I hear the only thing that is holding you back from going to the rubicon is a rear locker...I have a dana 35 complete with arb air locker 4:10 gears, for sale $700 we can install that in a very short time on shop day ans there is no reason for you not to go to the rubicon and have a party with us

Except for that $700 thing. :laugh3: Do you take installments say over 5 years? :greensmok
I would love to have it but that's about twice what I was planning to spend on my D35.
I appreciate the offer Jerry. Hopefully should have a beefier axle and locked by next year.

You're gonna start a feeding frenzy.
Are you really going to sell that rear 44 w/ARB? How much bucca do you want/need for it?

I need to get my 'stable' down to three vehicles. I need a truck {manual, diesel}, I'm keeping the YJ, and my wife will always need a car and we just paid off her ZJ a few months ago.
I honestly don't know how much it'd take. I like that rig, but it's days are numbered. I don't know the number, but it's coming right up and I'm not really ready to let it go. No big dollars are going into the engine or t-case and those are my major problem areas along with my unibody. I haven't given much thought to it until very recently, and I still drive the XJ daily {granted, my commute time is like 3 minutes}. I need to put a windshield in it to get it inspected and I'm only good through May, I think. I'll probably part it out after that, unless I can find a willing donor XJ for CHEAP!
If/when I do part it out.......here's my thoughts.
I'd like to get $1200-1100 out of the rear axle, but I don't know how reasonable that is. (we all think our junk is valuable, don't we?) Everything is always open too offers, though. An 8 lug set of tires/wheels, might be on the cool side for someone in trade???? 37-40" is what I'm wanting to run in the YJ. Open to offers, as always, but I think I'll wait until after May or something. I'm still legal until then.....
The reverse D30 is 4.88, ARB (that's had issues, but nothing serious, I keep an eye on it frequently--changing the diff fluid every 5K to inspect the bolts holding the ARB together) and I'd want to move a lower control arm mount on it before delivery. Works OK with my short-arm 3 link, but I'd give someone something more similar to stock, just to feel good about it. D30's are dime a dozen, $100 or so. I guess I'd need $800ish out of the front, including all my spare parts (axles, unit bearings, tie rod, draglink and some other non trail fix stuff that I've kept around {rotors, etc.}). Set up, that might be worth it to someone. A set of SRW D60 hubs and rotors are worth $300 to me and I'd like an Eaton Electric or ARB for 4.56 or greater gears. Trade is always good.
I'd still have some 70-60%ish 35" MT/R's, drivelines and some lift parts for some value.....

..........I need to get 220 out in the garage and I'll be moving along with the YJ. After that is ready {or at least close}, I guess I'll part the XJ out. I would have serious reservations about letting someone have the engine/tranny/t-case as they sit, but everything else would be available.[/QUOTE]
:greensmok Dude, I'm all over that 220 to the garage & trade for stuff thing :viking: I'm a SLC based electrician w/22 yrs in the trade.
I could really use that D30 - it would be a step up from my current junk :puke: If your interested shoot me an E-MAIL @ deweyxj@msn.com
It's a new address - hope the old bag set it up right - I'll keep watching this site just in case :dunce: or I'll be in Moab the 24th in my POS camo XJ w/ no roof - just the trusses!! :anon:
