My wife and i went back and forth for a week or so,trying to decide if drive to little saharra, for a few hours of playing in the sand was worth it.
the meeting time was 9 am,we had a soccer game at 10 am,so we decided against it.
big joe calls me on his cell around 9.30am he was loosing reception because they were almost there, told me the weather was slowing them down ,then we were cut off. :eyes: we couldnt help ourselves we had the itch to go.
my wife goes to the soccer game while i get things together for the trip.(an hour is not alot of time to prepare)but well try!
after topping off all the fluids, loading what i could think well need for tools, and forgetting the things i really needed, like a gas can, fuses, flash light etc, we were off to the dunes.
left slc around 11.30 grabbed lunch in santa quin ,we made it to the the meeting place a few hour late ,(oops) .took a guess and headed to big sand mtn, couldnt see any jeeps,of course my cb decides not to work again :(
start havin fun ,through some berms ,heading to a bowl, when my jeep just dies, with no advanced warning were done!!!!sitting at the bottom of a bowl,
and no one in site,i start fiddling under the hood, hoping for something obvious.  ya right.
along comes an atv he stops and tells me he's seen some jeeps not to far away, hell send them my way if he sees them again.
now my 3 kids have been in the jeep for almost 3.5 hours there doing fine ,but im stresin ,asking my self why did we come here again????
when it happens, i here engines revin through the dunes, and getting close,
looking up to the top i see an xj ,its Jeff, and then Jared, then Ace now Itzack, then dead eye (Jared) and now climbon, woooo hooo what a site to see party1:
jeffs doing donuts around me with a big old smile on his face ,while dead eye rips threw the bowl.eventually everyone comes to a stop,to look at my dead in the sand jeep, after about an hour of guessing were still not totally sure,
(its tow time)out of the bowl to the main gate(thanks dead eye) he goes back for some more fun. its been 2hours or more since we arrived at the dunes and were back where we started (oh well)
since i had some time to spare, i removed the in tank fuel pump, and noticed
a wire on the pump had come off,(couldnt be this easy ,could it?) put every thing back together and tuned the key,YIPEEEE we wern't stranded after all.
of course now its almost 5 pm,its cold,im still crankey, and its starting to snow(again). i did'nt want to leave with out telling the group what the problem wa
and to say thank you for helping!!!!
So was it worth it????? Hell ya it was. (sure beats sittin on the couch)
my wife the kids and i were just glad to be there. besides these NAXJA guys
make a pretty fun group to hang with.
Thanks again.
hey joe thanks for calling sorry i missed you See Ya :peace: out.

Glad you showed up down there Brian. Since when did Cherokee's ever come to the rescue anyway? I thought that was the cavalry's job!
Oh yes! it most definantly was worth it!! Everybody enjoyed themselves and we got a whole lot of wheelin done on the sand.

Oh yeah, XJ's can fly!!

When I woke up yesterday morning and saw the snow comming down, I really questioned if it is worth the drive. Man am I glad I did it!, what a blast on the sand. I have never been on sand of this large scale before (in a jeep). The conditions were perfect and I would love to go again before it gets too dry. Honestly, we have a bunch of really cool people in this intermountain group and am looking forward to many more events to come. See all you guys and gals soon. Keith

What crap! I'm telling the dead they have to wait until monday next time. For those that don't know I deliver burial vaults for dead people. So it sounds like I would have been just fine with my 2wd huh? Well I guess I'll try and catch the next one.

Glad to hear everything worked out ok for you in the end Brian. Break downs suck, especially when your alone. (been there done that)
Hopefully soon I'll be able to join you guys out on the trail again. :anon:

Yep, I'm gonna need stronger LCA mounts. I'd hate to go through that breakdown again. I'm also considering having the knuckles cut and rotated while the axle is out (along with a few other things). Brian, how did your 'cut & rotated' axle turn out? Should I give Tubular a shot or stick with JR?

I've got a better idea, fix the LCA axle brackets, trade out the 35's for 33's......slap on some LCA drop brackets and get down to 6-7" of lift so you can actually use your rig for it's intended purpose........which ain't pickin' up 15 year old girls in bowling alley parking lots, or collecting bling awards at the carshow :laugh2:

WhoooooHoooooo  I couldn't have said it better myself!
Let's turn that Limo into a wheeler. You already smashed the gas can holder and ripped the bolts out of the bushwackers. Now's the time to drop it 4.5 inches and make a wheeler out of it.

Hmmm, 33's, LCA drop brackets and 6" of lift? I just happen to have one of those sitting in the driveway. Unfortunately it doesn't have lockers or a D44 under the rear end anymore.
BTW, the wife won't let me pickup on the 15 yr olds... anymore. :bawl:

Stick with JR..........

Which LCA mounts are you using? Stock? Axle or body end? Many solutions.....I bet JR would hook you right up.

Yep, I've already made my appointment with JR for my LCA mounts and also to cut and rotate my knuckles. I ran into Brian R. today at JR's shop. He was having his knuckles cut and turned too. JR did a very nice job on his and I can't wait to get mine done; no more vibes!

What does JR charge to cut and rotate the knuckles?

You can figure around 500.00 depending on what eles needs to be done, youll just need to bring it to him to find out.
mine needed a pinion bearing and a ball joint, oh well its always something.
drove it home tonight, and it felt tight and responsive.
he also had it done earlier than he said it would
so here comes moab ,yiiipppeeeee.
