freeze plugs/expansion joints

I finally got the head off yesterday to get the leak fixed.
The plug in the back of the head was a rubber expansion plug. Is this what the factory installed? Should I replace with another rubber one or go with a metal plug?

Factory would have used a metal plug. If you have the head off, the metal plug is the best way to go.
