Yet another gear question

On the Stock dana 30 with 3.55 gears you cannot put lower gears into it, IE 3.73, 4.11 so on, is that a correct statement? Now is the reason for this the Carrier inside the axle housing? So if I change the carrier along with the gears I am good to go?

Do i need to change the whole housing...basicly buy a new axle with lower gears in it?

Nope, just change the carrier and you're good to go. It also gives you an excuse to ad a locker! :idea:

I I'm not mistaking you can change carriers and go up to a 4.88 ratio. I believe that is the max but I very well could be mistaken.

High Pinion - 4.88 is the deepest

Low Pinion - 5.38 is the deepest (IIRC)

Any higher numerical carrier (3.73, 4.10, 4.56, 4.88) will solve the problem and allow you to to run the deep gears...
