I am trying a ring and pinion install for the first time and so far it is going pretty well, pattern is close and preload and backlash is good, but I have a question. I am doing the setup in an unheated garage and here in N.E. PA it has been cold lately. Could this affect the backlash and preload ? Just a newb at this so any help would be appreciated. BTW the gears are used and in good shape but the bearings are all new, its a dana 35 with 4:11's.
Thanks,
Bill

Nope

As you're obviously aware metal expands and contracts a bit as the temperature changes. As for setting up a dif I don't think it'll make any difference though. If it did we'd all have to heat them up to operating temp prior to setting it up and thank God we don't have to do that.
