Axle shipping

Has anyone on here shipped an axle? I've heard of maybe using Forward Air? Do you just crate the axle up or what? Any idea on a ballpark cost? Any advice or links would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

I had a 44 with drums shipped to me from So. Fla. to NC for $50 (in 2000) using American Freightways. It was shipped from a business and I met the driver at a local factory...(their box had no liftgate, we just slid it off the box down into my MJ bed...liftgate service and/or non-biz. addy may cost more?)

It came banded to a small (2' x 5.5' apprx) pallet, and one of the drums had come off, losing the shoe adjuster & lower spring...no biggie, cheap at the autoparts store.
