vacuum bottle?

what is the pourpose of the bottle on the passenger front. its black looks like a ostrige egg and has a tube coming off of it. i took mine off and started to wonder why its there

It's a vacuum reservoir to retain vacuum when engine manifold vacuum drops when climbing long uphill grades, running wide-open throttle, etc.
Without this reservior, every time your vacuum drops significantly, your heater plenum doors will revert to the "defrost" mode, among other things.
