Are any of the trails legaly open after the fires ???
From another group:
Here is a quick rundown on where the gates are located on the
Mountaintop Ranger District. Sorry I don't have the info for the
Front Country.
Arrowhead Area:
2N25 just beyond the moonscape, below the Northshore residence
2N26Y at the bottom of Hook Creek Road.
2N75 temporarly gated at the cattle guard / 3W12
2N31 this is at the end of Alberta and leads to the sewer ponds.
2N96 off Banff Road and at the back of the Northshore Campground
3N34 at 173 on the west about 100 feet off 173.
3N34 on the east - just beyond the Fishermans Camp trailhead (2W07)
3W06Y OHV Trail at 173 - this is wired closed, no gate.
3W14 OHV Trail at 173 - this also is wired closed, no gate.
3N59 - this is located several hundred feet beyond 3N59a
Lake Silverwood Area:
2N03 - this is at the bottom of Burnt Mill Canyon Road (County Rd)
2N33 - at the Cedar Springs Dam on the west
2N33 - just west of 2N34 on the east end. (this may change locations)
2N36 - at the junction with 2N37 in Miller Canyon. (this may change)
2N43 - at the end of Sawpit Canyon, at the end of private property
2N45 - at State Hwy 138
2N47 - at State Hwy 138
2N49 - a few hundred feet beyond the pavement on Cleghorn Road
2N59 - State Hwy 138 on the east, Cleghorn Road on the west.
2N63 - on State Highway 138 on the east and west ends.
2N24Y - Off Lovers Lane - needs gate repaired.
2N24Y - off Ridge road - no gate installed as of yet.
This covers roads that normally are open, but were closed during the
fire. There are a few spurs not listed that are not open for public
access normally, and routes within these gates (2N27Y etc....) This
should give you a rough idea of where the gates are.
-----
People going around the gates (and/or ripping out the gates) is becomming a serious problem, one that may under review of the CA State OHMVC. The radical greens are exploiting these acts by ignorant drivers in the forest as reason for total closure, combined with claims that "critical" habitat for three T&E species has been severely impacted by the fire (20-40% of the habitat reduced to ash).
If you see someone compromising a gate, educate them about what they may risk losing (safely).
