97 TPS connection in 96?

'96 xj 4.0 manual trans

96 tps doesnt fit. Will the 97 tps plug into the wiring harness of my 96?

Ive tried 3 stores now and the tps for a 96 doesnt fit the plug in the harness of my xj. Nobody had the 97 tps to directly compare but will it fit my 96? I also had a problem with connections not matching when i repaced the cps.
I know the cherokee underwent the design change 97 and up; Ive got the older body style with the 96. Ive looked at a picture of the '97 tps and seems like itd be a better fit. If worse comes to worse i can solder the connection but rather not.

There were a bunch of electrical conection changes mid year of '96. If you get the FSM for '96 it comes with an extra supplement that covers all of the mid-year changes.

Thanks for the reply...I ordered the 97tps, got it today and the plug snapped right in place.

how much was that tps?

about $60

too much for that, what about a junkyard part
