Hurrah for Our most Noble Prez! I am really looking forward to this as I will probably be unable to attend the Moab event this Fall. I am planning on heading down Thursday night thus able to do trails Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and then come home Sunday night. I'm not sure if we will actually organize trails, but I sure would like to do the Spike sometime this year as I have never done it before. Either way, I'm sure we will have a wailing good time.

WOO HOO! I'm there, come hell or high water. The baby (which is due any day) will be about 3 mo old by then - hopefully old enough to hold his head steady on a trail. I will definately need a break from first time parenthood by then. I'll have to get my NAXJA membership dues in by then, so I won't feel like such a mooch.

I am not at all against using a campground, similar to the 20th anniv event, to use as a base of operations. I anticipate that we will have a rather large turnout for this thing, and it would be nice to have a large body of us together to keep planning smooth. Also, it's just nice to be able to meet people in places other than the trail.

Jeff - just make sure to delegate enough of the leadership responsibilities down there so that you can actually wheel some trails!

Jared, thanks for stepping up to help out! ;)

We already have the format in place so planning this will follow the same steps as other events, such as the one in Oct. Camping is a definite option, Slickrock Campground makes a great HQ. Those that want to hotel it can do so, once we get a tentative headcount, we can firm up what trails we'll run.

To all attendees: We will adhere to the NAXJA trail run guidelines.......you have 4 months to get ready, don't wait until you get to Moab to remember about installing tow points front and rear, pitch the donut for a FS spare, and for crying out loud...........install a decent CB radio! :)

I'm there. As I said before, I would love to do a Kane creek run with everyone. It's alot like AZ 4-wheeling with so many things mixed in to challenge all driving levels, the book rates it low but I think it's right up there with Hell's revenge. The veiws are amazing and a great place to have lunch is down by the waterfalls and big pools. So that is my suggestion, see you all there. Keith

Kane creek would be fun in the spring. Handlebars got us thru it in Oct '03, with only a couple flat tires, and one rocker panel damage, cuz..we didn't have the rockguards on yet. Water should be higher in the spring, I'd think, making it enough of a different run I'd like to go again.

I'd do Kane Creek, never done it before. I hear that trail is an all day affair though.
I'd lead some of the pokey trails depending on how much interest there might be among the moderate crowd.
I guess we'll talk about it at the meeting.

Well guys, I just became member #746 for the next 2 years. Now that I am paying money to the cause, I get to work instead of be a leech. Jeff and Joe, when you guys need help with settin this stuff up, just lemmie know.

Kane creek is sooper dooper boring for the first half, then a whole lotta fun on the second half. But I think that we should decide what trails to do in a seperate thread. Let's keep this one focused on headcounts and accomadations just to try to stay organized.

Let's see some interest here guys! Sheesh, it's Moab!

The BOD will meet this week and set things up (try to  ). Look for a group e-mail by next weekend with more details. Also, plan on attending the next meet and greet and we can discuss what trails to run and such. Remember what Jeff said, it is going to take everyones input to make this work.
Can't wait 'til Moab!

Keep in mind, the RodBenders Show http://www.moab-utah.com/aprilaction/index.html will be in town, Sat night will be fun to hang out on Main St and watch the rods parade.......takes me back to my street roddin' days.......

I won't be going down until Thursday night and then wheel Friday, Saturday, Sunday, come home Sun. night. What front locker are you going with again? I really want to upgrade my steering to Rustys over the knuckle, but just cannot justify it until I blow up my stock junk. Maybe this will be the trip it happens. BTW, where is everyone planning on staying? I will, more than likely, stay at SRCG. If I trailer it down there I will for sure be at SR.

I'll be there all day friday and saturday, dunno how long on sunday. No idea where I'll stay. Did the super 8, in October, but that ain't cheap...me, I'm cheap AND inexpensive... I want to put a front bumper on first, when I decide which one to get; and the rock rails (sitting here now), but finding the time/place to do 'em, isn't working out too well. Prolly the fact that whenever I go to drill something, the angle ends up wierd or magically transported half an inch over from where it needs to be, has me hesitating on that one....

I am going with the ARB up front. I had my old limited slip tossed out and had a Detroit thrown in the back, much better. Also going to have Six States put in some CTM axle u-joints up front for peace of mind. Looking forward to running the rigs together, always fun and with you safe. Keep in touch.

I've been trying to get a hold of a human being at that campground for the past couple of weeks to no avail. I have left messages on the answering machine a couple of times and have not been contacted. I have been considering calling Buck's Grill House to see if the campground was still there. :D I wonder if Slickrock closes for the winter? (435) 259-7660 and (800) 488-8873 both get an answering machine that says Slickrock Campground.

I am definately going, the boss gave me the 23rd off. I plan on leaving Albuquerque directly from work on Thursday, with an expected arrival in Moab at midnight or so. I'll lead anything but Pritchett or Behind the Rocks.

Dan, sorry to hear you can't make it, bud. I'd be happy to tow your trailer down there if anyone needs to have the firewood there. The wife and I will be staying in a hotel for sure with a 3 month old baby, but I could hand it off to the campers once we get there. What kind of trailer light plug do you have on that thing? Is it the flat 4-wire?

This is a bit off subject, but there is a fellow XJ owner that I have lost contact with. Does anybody out there know Les? He is a British guy from SLC, about 45-50 who drives a red XJ with 4" or so. He is super nice and I just wanted to make sure that he is invited. I know he hangs out on rockymountainextreme.com . Any info would be great.

Still has one more, beyond the one I just picked up. 2 people per cabin, is 34 bucks plus tax. Slickrock was sold out. Made the call at 9:20 am today. No idea what shape the cabins are in, but the lady sounded perky, so at this hour, that's good enough for me...

Ms.Conception is where the work is being done. Simply ran out of time/energy to do some of the stuff myself. Should be done in a week. JohnJohn, you are the reason for these posts and always give me just reward

Never have and never will vote for Nader. You just wait until Roy Moore joins the race as a Republican...you remember...the Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court who decided he was Moses and got fired for it? He's gonna bleed out all the fundamentalists and erode that base...Nader times ten. I bet good ole James Baker has placed a not so nicely worded call or ten to our friend Roy. [end :soapbox: ]

I'm staying at Rim Village because the family is coming, too. These are new, upscale condos about 5 miles south of town, and they are pricey. They have full kitchens (and 2 car garages), though, so we can cook instead of eating out, and that makes up most of the price difference vs. staying in a hotel room and eating out every meal, which would be pure hell with 2 preschoolers and a baby :badpc: . One of these days we'll just camp, but not quite ready for that.

Right now I'm planning one of the hardcore runs sans familia, and maybe a more scenic run with everybody onboard, plus a day in the National Parks sightseeing with a little bit of hiking and some Moab wine tasting at the end of the day. Sweet!!!

Getting "a little" closer to the event, do we have a better idea yet of which trails will be run and who will be leading (or helping out with) them? Also, there have been signs of comittment here and there, it might be a good idea to get an official list going of who all will for sure be attending. This might help as we plan what trails for what day.

Just got back with the jeep, and it's doing well. I'll be in Moab both days in April. I don't remember where the hell I'm staying, or what I had for breakfast, but I remember I got leave for then, and I'll be there. I want to do Kane Creek and another moderate trail. This is my 'breaking in the jeep for Colo/Rubicon in august' attempt. Will let me know whatever I forgot to get, prior to that.

The plan is to keep everyone in the dark, charge them a high event fee and then leave them hanging to fend for themselves............... :twak: :D

Actually we have a trail run schedule that is being nailed down, an approx. head count of attendees, folks have volunteered for a Sat night BBQ and raffle, and we have some vendors lined up to donate raffle prizes.

The BOD will be engaging our Event Committee on this and there should be more info here soon. Stay tuned...........

WOO HOO! I'm there, come hell or high water...

I hate it when I have to eat my own words! Sorry to inform you guys, but I won't be able to grace you with my presence for this trip. Employment plans haven't panned out yet and money's pretty tight, just enough to get by on with the wife's income. With the Moab trip this weekend pretty much set in stone, I won't have the extra funds to get down there 2 months in a row. Take lot's of pics for me!

And this is what you've done with your college education.............. :lecture: .........so the trail will start on GBR, connect with GS, EDIT: running GS in reverse to Golden Crack, lunch break at GC, then follow the GS route NWest, taking in the S turn, GStairs, Whammy, DWhammy and the BS, and the trail then joins back with GB..........out Spike was dead on.

I understand David's confusion, without any edjication! I think there was confusion in the meeting. When we did it in 2002 we started on GBR then right below where GBR ends is where Spike "comes out" We took a left for the Rim wich was real close, then afterword returned to that junction, then we went IN on Spike, SEastward through the obsticles above in reverse order to the crack, then return Out on Spike Nwesterly through those same obsticles in same order as above then back to the junction with GBR just below where it ends then Out GBR. The only other trail I saw out there after the crack on the way out is where Rusty Nail comes up from the canyon just past the s turn if I recall. I was riding shotgun with ACE at the time so....I think that is what Jeff means when he says out spike...

I believe the offical breakdown is this: If you belong to Naxja, we lend you tools, attached to a lanyard so it doesn't stray too far. If you belong to Intermountain Chapter of Naxja, we open a vein for you, and pack you out on our backs...after we complete the trail. If you're a non-member, well..if the kids are under 5 years of age, we'll sell you an icecube and vaguely point in the direction of 'out' if you break down.

Well, okay, the truth is, I wasn't a member until after I attended Naxja's October 2003 20th anniversary run in Moab. (Check was in the mail, honest). The good times, and spirit of 'we're in this together' got me never regret joining. Run back thru the various Intermountain Chapter threads, some of us will be arriving before Friday morning. Most of us will have the NAXJA sticker plastered somewhere. Take a look at the safety requirements, and have that stuff, and we should be golden. Welcome. Several of the guys/gals will be bringing family.
We've even got some folks from Colorado coming, as well. We'll bring a dart gun, so that should be okay. Quiet over there! POINK! That's why we use the tow straps without hooks..doesn't leave as much of a mark, when we drag 'em off into the underbrush... :gee:

I have to agree. I think Kane Creek is a perfect trail to try a little to mildly modified jeep out on for the first time. Man I watched my father take a stock suzuki sidekick up PSM. Not to mention there will be way more then enough people to help you through any bad spot. As far as Saturday goes. I have tones of confidence that we can get you up PSM with NO problems. This is a trail that you could get a stocker up with a little help and it is the first trail I took my first jeep up after I modified it. Jeff, I would love to lead the GBR/GS trail on Friday except I have never been on Golden Spike and GBR only once, it might make for an awful long day wandering in the desert. If no one else volunteers I can still do it with the help of a map. Also, is there anyone else that would like to do Kane Creek on Saturday? If not, I will prolly jump on the Poison Spider trail.

What about Sunday, Is anyone running anything then? I'd like to do Kane Creek also but I want to GBR/GS. No offense to who planned the trails but you picked 3 good ones on Friday. Couldn't they be mixed up with Saturday's pick. Moab rim was nothing too great I thought. Or maybe I just better shut my mouth :shhh: and be happy I get to go! Sunday though I'd like to do something. Can't wait!

I think most of us will be heading home Sunday. May have to play it by ear for Sunday. Maybe find out at the Saturday bbq and raffle who might be sticking around on Sunday and plan it then. I agree, it was a hard decision what to run on Friday but I think I'll be doing Kane Creek.

Kane Creek on friday, poison spider on saturday. Was gonna do something Sunday, but checking out and all that, so will have all my stuff with me, prolly just head on home, then.

Spares, if anyone from IC needs them that weekend:
2 dana 35 non-c shafts (rear)
u-joints, various
tire plug kits
hose repair kit
electrical repair kit
Not that I know how to USE this stuff, but yeah, I've got 'em
And a really cheesy slow as hell plug it in and go to sleep air pump for tires.
and various fluids, of course.
light bulbs, and fuses.
various silicone gasket type sealants.

Why don't we just run up thru gold bar then do all of golden spike and out poison spider mesa. That could be done in one day if started at 08:30. Or on Saturday, from PSM go do golden spike and out GBR. That way we could all do Kane Creek also. I don't know, just a suggestion.

I think the consesus for Saturday was that we wanted to be back in town for the BBQ/Raffle. Kane Creek and GBR - GS - PS are plain too long for comfort with that plan. There was interest in doing GBR - GS - PS however GS to the crack and back out was chosen for Friday because stockish XJ's can do GBR plus that end of GS makes for a great out and back hitting GS's best obstacles twice and being back to enjoy everyone cruising in thier hotrods in town that night will make up for a less than all day trail run.

I know many of you prolly won't decide what trails to run until you are down there, but can I have a head count of who is (as of now) planning on running Gold Bar/Spike trail on Friday? Bretto, I am going to stick around Sunday morning and may be interested in a trail as long as it is not an all day affair. It might be fun to play around on Hell's Revenge that day as it is easy to cut away and get back to town quick if need be. I'd vote Hell's for Sunday. I wasn't too impressed with Moab Rim but it is all fun. I'm easy to please, so whatever. Anyone know if dump bump will be accessible without paying? I was down there last year and the land owner was pulling in $5 a vehicle! Some people. They were also trying to tell people they couldn't park on the side of the road (public road). I'd like to do dump bump again but won't pay. Last time I did it, I was open front and rear so I suppose if I tried again I would be no biggie locked both ends. I'll do it if we can sneak around the back way if we do hell's. We can discuss an action plan on Friday or Saturday night for a Sunday run though.

Welllll..if there's a fee, and one of our people can't pay it, I will, for them. Reason behind this...if the owner (whether run by private citizen/BLM), finds people avoiding the fee, the area could very well be shut down. And I'd just as soon that didn't happen. I spend more in gas driving to the area, than the fee would ever cost me.

Don't get me wrong, it pisses me off, to pay a fee to go to 'public' lands..I'm the public, I pay taxes. But the fact is, until our legislature decides that our lands are a focus for funding, the needs will have to be met by those that use them. Last time I checked..that was us. Our own focus, with tread lightly, and other programs, helps to ensure that impact of our visits, are lessened, reducing the needs for funding. If the BLM starts gouging us, then, that's another matter. 5 bucks a vehicle, for an 'all day pass' whether public or private..isn't unreasonable. If a grocery getter can get 27 kids in one for soccer practice, it's a bargain :P

It's a private citizen that owns the land in front of it just like Lion's Back. I suppose I can't harp on the guy for making a buck, but it sure is a slimy way to do it. Then again if people want to pay it then so be it. In the off season times, the gate is normally unlocked....may have changed now, I don't know. It just stinks to have to pay for something like that. I suppose it's not worth messing with and I see your point. Thanks  for whipping me into line. Can't wait to get out there!

Poomba's 'new' engine (a 96 with 60k miles on it) was going in yesterday. Still to be resolved was the changeover in fuel rail and sensor wires maybe not matching up. The replaced engine...is one for the books. You can freakin' see thru both sides of the block. 7 inches tall, 3 inches wide, holes on both sides. It grenaded, and of course, clipped the oil pan, and broke the cam in half. I think I can salvage the oil cap on top, go me. If anyone needs a valve cover, you can have that, but man, when I screw something up, I don't mess around.

Last october, there were some willows (thumb sized trees, normally found on ditchbanks and other water sources) that hug the trail in a few areas pretty close. They can scratch some. Not deep gouges, but yeah, you can see you've been close to nature.

No she wouldn't. Actually our downstairs family room is our"jeep room" evrything in there is jeep themed. I would have the block power tanked then powder coated. It would look cool. I was going to do it with a block from a V8 but that would be more authentic.
