I sure am glad this chapter is finally official. Thanks for the efforts of all of you who made it happen. I am proud to be a member of the newest NAXJA local chapter. I just wanted to make a suggestion for a chapter trail run. Instead of waiting until October for the next NAXJA sponsored Moab run (one in which we will probably be heavily involved), lets do one in the spring. We could, of course, invite other chapters. With all of those included in the intermountain area, I'm sure we would have a pretty good turnout. It would not have to include major planning, just head down there, make your own lodging arrangements, and then hook up for whatever trail sounds good for the day. A good time would be a weekend either before or after the Easter safari (April 3-11). Possibly memorial weekend, May 29-31? What do you all think?

You're reading my mind....Davey boy. :)
Some suggested an all XJ run at Safari time......but Jeep Safari is getting nuts IMHO. Other locations of interest might be Cedar City, it's about the same drivetime as Moab but won't have the crowds?
Keep the input coming and we will nail down a spring Chapter run date and destination.......

I'm up for something in the spring. Sooner we know a date, sooner we can apply for leave, greater chance of getting that leave approved.

Me and some of the wranglers that I wheel with are going down the weekend after safari. It's something that we've been doing for a long time. The trails are well marked because of the safari but there's not many people on them. It's also the Hot Rod weekend which provides plenty of entertainment after a long day on the trail. At night they run the Rods up and down main street.
Just a thought......
Joe

I've been going down that same week the last few years. The hot rods are definitly fun to watch.

I was just thinking the same. Spring would be perfect, maybe a long weekend and include our monthly Intermountain Chapter meet along with it.

I would like to shoot for Moab as opposed to Cedar. The weekend after the safari is a great idea, but it would make lodging tougher to get. Lets nail down a date soon so we can make arrangements early.

Whenever I've gone down after the Safari I havn't had any problems getting a campground. I usually call a month in advance to reserve a spot.

April 3-11, 2004.
I like the idea of doing a run on April 23-24th. The Moab Rod Benders car show will be in town on that same weekend and it should be warm enough for folks who want to camp...........to camp.

Nobody is hip on waiting until Memorial weekend, huh? Shall we go ahead and plan on the Weekend of April 24th? If so, lets put the word out. I'm sure we will get a huge response.

I've already had my reservations for the 16 -19th which is the weekend after Safari.. I was told that's the weekend for the Rods???
Am I wrong or what?? I don't think I'll be able to do 2 weekends in a row.

The Moab RodBender show has traditionally been the last full weekend of April. I checked their site and confirmed this, April 22-25th, with the meat of the event being Saturday, including the Main St cruise night.
Get those reservations changed pronto, Tonto. :)

Every year my wifes family goes down the weekend after the safari, it's always nice. So I will be there. I would like to get off the slick rock and do Kane creek again. My brother-in-law and I did it the weekend after the NAXJA event and it was no walk in the park. Mother nature has did a number on that canyon through the years. You got deep water, quick sand, big cliffs and two very interesting ledges to climb out of. If you love your paint job I would stay behind. Keith

So is it official? I am ready to make my reservations for April if you all are. We don't necessarily have to plan trails for each day, but I would like to do the 'spike sometime this year. It's about the only trail down there I haven't done. If we do this, I think I will head down on Thursday night, do trails Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and then head home Sunday night. If everyone is agreeable, lets get the word out. What do you think Mr. Chapter Prez?

I did it during the anniv. and smashed my rocker, :bawl: (my Fault for going to fast) but it wasnt that diffecult with help on the ground. The big thing to worry about is spring run off. :firedevil
