Having problems with ignition

Hi guys, this is my first jeep and I'm no tech, so I need alittle help. I'm having a problem with starting my xj, It seems I have to slam it into park to start it sometimes. I find it's 50/50 chance on starting it without having to slam it in park for 10 min. anyone have any idea's why this is happening? Thanx for your time.

Personally I'm a gear grinder, but that sounds suspiciously like the SNS (safety nutural switch). Look at the Jeepin.com web site (I haven't figured how to post hot links on the new site yet). There's a good tech article posted there on the subject. Good Luck

do a search here for NSS (neutral safety switch....thats the terms MOST used here) Somewhere there were almost precise directions on how to change it up.
