anyone know of an easy way to check the gear ratio of a front end that doesn't have any tags or labels? is it marked somewhere on the ring or pinion gears? i need to double check.

is it out of the vehicle? if so, count the teeth...divide the pinion # into the ring #

If it's a non-disconnect type with an open diff, jack up only one side and rotate the wheel 2 complete revolutions and count the rotations of the drive shaft. 3 rotations=3.07,3 1/2 rotations=3.55,4 rotations=4.10. These are not exact science measurements, mind you, just enough to get you in the ballpark.
BTW-if it's a disconnect type, you'll have to get the disconnect locked to go this route.
If you wanna get exact:
Pull the diff cover and rotate the ring gear while counting the teeth, then count the pinion teeth. Take the number of ring teeth and divide it by the number of pinion teeth.
