Separating axle tubes from centersection.

I need to separate the axle tubes from the centersection on a dana 44. I was thinking of drilling out the plugs with a bi-metal hole saw. Once I have this done, how hard is it to separate? I know of a place that works on tractor’s with a 100 ton puller, is that the way it done?

If I recall me and my friend wrapped a tow strap around it then wedged the Hi-lift against the frame and jacked the axle out.

when i retubed my 8.8 i torched the plug welds out, then cut a slot into the tubing that was inside the center section. on the other side i had to cut 2 slots for the end to come out. you can tell when the flame starts to cut into the cast iron, then just move the flame a little.
