drag link help

On the bottom end of the drag link that goes from pitman arm down towards passenger side tire is a stud that goes through the other drag link and is tightened by a castle nut. How do I get the stud to stop spinning so I can tighten the castle nut? I want to be careful not to ruin the threads so I'm leary about putting vice grips on the threads.
