Okay 93 Ford Escort, all new front brakes calipers, hoses, pads and rotors. after driving about 15 minutes brakes start pulsing along with clicking from chassis control box under drivers seat. has to be ABS, replaced computer still doing it. this was the reason we replaced the brakes, they were toast anyhow but still no go. Any one know if the ABS hgas a fuse we can disable, can't find one with the Haynes manual? HELP???

'93 '94 was a change year (not sure on month of implimentation -- it's a Ford thing...)

It's a relay driven system and there's an ABS relay that fires the wheels - perhaps the contacts in it are shorting (should be near the battery and would be not un-Fordlike to have had acid corrode the internals -- I don't have a part number here, so possibly a dealer item (interesting test - locate the relay and remove it, the ABS light on your dash should self-test then stay lit after the engine is running -- see if your issue goes away to assure yourself that it's an ABS issue) - can't say on the $$ of the relay - I did replace one once... the only one I saw, but the dash-lamp was on

The relay can be tested - I have notes, but hard to describe -PM if interested, mybe I can scan em or something...

I also have notes on checking the codes in that era's ABS ('91-'93)

This "check codes" stuff here is from pen-notes I have on hand - Try to verify them, cause I don't remember ever having used them (while sober)

Just aft of the battery there should be a diacnostic connector (Diagnostic Link Connector)... pop the cover (should hinge away from the fender... some just come off) Looking from the fender (so sideways from the headlights) the connector is divided into an upper and lower group of connections ("upper connector" group has qty=3 rows of contacts while the lower group has only two) -- lsound like what you've got??

If you pull the TBS connection to the connector's ground and watch for voltage spikes on the FBS buss it'll be a lot like the "flashing trouble code lamp" thing == I know WTF is the TBS, where's the ground and FBS You ! -- a scan tool would be nice!

Looking ONLY at the connector group with the qty=3 rows...
* the leftmost connector in the second row is the connector's ground.
* the second connector in the 3rd row is the TBS
* the 3rd connection in the 2nd row is the FBS

I believe that the pulses should be 12v, and they'll be very obvious - use a digital meter (not enough current for a diagnostic lamp or anything like that) with the positive lead in the FBS connection and the negative grounded to chassis ground...

With the key off, connect the connector's ground to the TBS.

Turn the key to "run" and watch the meter...
codes should repeat so count em through a few times...

Codes that start with a "!" are wheel sensors (2nd digit is R-L-R-L so 13 is right rear) -- that's all I have...

but... it's at least a BTT for ya

Ummm....yeah, what Satan said. Per my Haynes manual, you can use an analog meter the same way to pull "codes" from the ABS system. The code sequence will produce a series of long and short needle sweeps, the long sweep denoting the first digit of the code (1, 2, 5, or 6) followed by short sweeps for the second digit. The code table from the manual is:

11 = RF brake anti-lock sensor or RF brake signal rotor
12 = LF brake anti-lock sensor or RF brake signal rotor
13 = LR brake anti-lock sensor or RF brake signal rotor
14 = RR brake anti-lock sensor or RF brake signal rotor
15 = front and rear brake antil-lock sensors
22 = solenoid valve
51 = anti-lock relay
53 = anti-lock actuator motor or anti-lock relay
61 = anti-lock brake control module

Of course, the Haynes manual also says that the ABS system was introduced on the Escort in 1994, so take this info for what you think it's worth :) I am running a '94 non-ABS now, only because my MJ isn't back on the road yet. I hate it, but it does get 30+MPG. It will be going into the garage in less than 2 weeks once I get the MJ done......
HTH,
Jeff

It's a pretty crappy pic, but there is one....good enough to figure out what pins need to be jumped/grounded. I could scan it and e-mail it to somebody/anybody if they could post it here (??). I don't have a hosting service :(
