she is now used to the 3.5" lift and wants it bigger any sigjestins on a 6 or bigger lift?

Hey DF, you from Colo City? :D

For bigger lift ideas, seriously consider Rubicon Express. I've run their junk for years and have never been disappointed.
My Jeep is at 6" now and it's a perfect height, IMO.
Get yer RE Gear here........

Seriously, where do you live. I'm in So Ogden.

hey i got a lot of people to check it out that way:D .xjeeper thanks for the info ill have to check them out and start working on my budget. oh iam about 30 miles south of SLC ( dont know how far from moab have not had the privlage of beeing there yet).

Darkfly.

Isn't it a great place to live?:anon:

ya except for the (**Moderator Note: Removed remark that may be considered offensive, as well as completely off topic**) thing oh and that great lake efect:D . but there are a lot of cool places to go 4 wheelin at.

come on no one else has any other suggestions about a 6" or bigger lift kit? this is more for around town with some mild off road (just till the kids are old enough:D )

my suggestion for the best "kit" is the RE 5.5". Should net you ~6+ and come with everything you need, except the SYE and rear shaft. I don't have this kit, but it is my suggestion from what I have seen and read.
It comes with the drop brackets to get your geometry back into shape so your ride isn't teeth jaring

That being the case, I'd suggest that you two reconsider lifting just for appearance's sake.

At 6", you'll need new control arms, an SYE, driveshaft, and setting yourself up for problems with the stock steering.

Like TRL WGN 1 said, drop brackets help (more $$$) although I don't consider the ride bad in my 6" lift.

I just had this conversation over the summer (indirectly) with a friend who wanted to put 32s under his 98. Then he found out how much it was going to cost him just to be a mall cruiser.

Next thing you know, those dang mormons will be trying to censor your lift height in Utah County............if I were you, I'd just move to another state where you could buy weed, beer and porn on Sunday at the local 7-11 and legally marry your 1st cousin at age 12............may I suggest California or Oregon? :D

Like other's have suggested, going beyond 6" of lift gets complex, effects drivability and cost LOTS of money. Many that went real big (beyond 6") evenutally wound up either dropping back down due to the adverse effects or moved onto another platform that they could run 35-37" tires without needing 8" of lift (TJ-YJ's). I have 3 buddies that went up to about 8" on their XJ's, and they all complained about how their rigs didn't perform as well as it did at 6". You can run 35's with proper trimming...........

Then there are those like Sean and Beezil that shed the sheetmetal and tail for tube and beefed the running gear to handle the forces that are applied by 37" tires and hardcore trails.

That being said, if time and money are no issues and you're willing to deal with the side effects of a BIG rig, then I say go for it.
Check out Skyjackers 8" RockKrawlers 7" and the RE XJ Longarm should be capable of 8"+ with some additional customization.

I'm gonna show this thread to my wife..............she says that if I lift my Jeep any higher (at 6" w/32's) she'll freak..........at 5'3", I don't understand why she doesn't like to jump to get in.........after all, she was a gymnist.:D
Wonder what's gonna happen when I put on the 285's..........technically, I'm adding tire height, not lift.;)

Your canvas............decide what you want to paint.

Bigger

What most people are dissatisfied with on the XJ is tire size in terms of "looks". The XJ has an inherent problem of needing a lot of lift for big tires, and then there is so much lift the tires don't look that big, so you get bigger tires, and they rub, and you need more lift...and then you have spent $20K.

I have 8" of lift with 34x12.5" tires, and the tires don't look that big, even though I am reminded of how damn big they are when I have to load the spare up onto the roof rack. Having said that, I like the way my rig is wheeling better at 8" of lift than it did with 6"...but that's probably because I was running skinny 33x10.5 on the 6" lift and 34x12.5 on 8" lift is more stable.

Anway, this XJ has something of the opposite effect of the TJ, which can run 35's on 4" of lift and look a lot bigger than it actually is. If you haven't had a problem with getting stuck all the time, your best option is to stick to 4" of lift and get 33" tires under there with fender trimming and optimizing shock travel away from body. 33's will *look* big on 4" of lift. They won't look big on 6" of lift. 35's look big on 6" of lift, not quite so big on 8" of lift, where 37's are about right. RE's 5.5" kit is a good out of the box setup, but I think the drop brackets cost an awful lot of clearance at that lift height, and you can get into steering issues with the stock steering.

So, if it is for looks just get bigger tires under it. If it is for performance, you need to ask an awful lot of questions that go way beyond your wife's preference for bigger sizes

Nay

Xjeeper........I am rotflmao! :D

xjeeper my toy on 3" lift and 33" is a jump to get in to and she didnt mind it at all the only thing that sucked was putting 2 kids in a lifted 2 door:D . so at about 6" and say 33"-35" tires it should be about the same hight. now this is more of a around town xj so how big of lift could i run with 33"? oh sorry to all the mormons or other people that i may have offened:angel: .

DF, We are talking 33x12.50s, right? You can run 33's with 5" if you want to trim the fenders and move the flares up, trimming them so they don't rub.
I'd suggest 6" of lift for 33's if you plan on flexing it up on anything more that a curb.........another important issue is wheel Back Spacing. Too much BS will cause the tires to rub the wheelwells while turning, too little BS will cause the tires to rub the fenders/flares..........back to the importance of trimming.

RE's 5.5 Extreme duty lift is a good choice for this and will net you 6" of lift. Drop brackets will help with the on-road ride but sacrifice ground clearance......not a problem if this is mainly a cruiser. Don't forget the SYE kit, 6" of lift is too high to run a slipyoke style driveshaft.
Good luck.......

ya 12.50's you know wider is better (except for in the snow:D than you need th 9.50's) as for the jaw jarring ride the toy is bad you feel ever bump in the road so i dont think it could be any worse than that.

sorry i should say 12.50 suck on the snow coverd road.

:sure:

if you can't flex 33's on a 5" lift the cutting you've done is not trimming.

there's lots of worthless sheetmetal that can be cut, bent and rewelded to make an XJ fit and flex a larger tire than a TJ on the same size lift.
