e-brake cable attachment to hand lever

Would there be any problem with using e-brake cables that have half the unsheathed length where they attach to the lever? OEM XJ are rougghly 10" from the end of the sheathing to the know at the end of the cable, so would a cable with 5" cause a problem? I know I'll need to mount new tabs to hold the cable, but would the cable be at too much of an angle where it goes fromt he tabs inside the tunnel to where they meet on the threaded rod of the lever?

The YJ passenger brake cables are like this...
I just made and extension Y-bracket that replaces the piece the cables normally connect to. It extends the length by 6 or whatever inches. It has one hole for connecting to the threaded rod. At the other end are some flat-stock bent in a "J" and some holes to hook the cables through.
This gives about 12" of extra ebrake cable length.
